The Troy City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to reappoint Sherrill Crowe for another four-year term as director of the Troy Hospital Health Care Authority Board.

“He has been the chairman of this board since its inception and he does an outstanding job,” said Mayor Jason Reeves. “Things are constantly improving at the hospital and he’s a big part of that. We really appreciate his willingness to serve. He has a healthcare background that a lot of people don’t know about.  He’s a tremendous leader of that group.”

The council also approved a bid that will set prices for public safety vehicle accessories for the police and fire departments.

Police Chief Randall Barr told the council that the previous company that outfitted police vehicles with accessories was sold to another company and were no longer able to provide the necessary accessories, so the bid process was followed with only one vendor, Hurricane Electronics of Montgomery, responding.

“There’s no total price with this bid process, what you’re approving is the prices of individual accessories,” Barr said. “This will be able to be used by our department and the fire department.”

Barr said the money is already within the police department budget to purchase the accessories needed to equip the 15 new police cars that the council approved the purchase of last year.

With the approval of the bid, Barr said he hopes to have the new vehicles equipped and on the road in 30 to 45 days.

The council finished out its agreement to contract for services after hearing from the Pike County Health Department at the meeting.

Corey Kirkland, area administrator for the southeast district of Alabama, told the council that the city’s support of the health department is crucial to providing services that keep citizens in good health.

Reeves and the council made a special point to thank public officials who responded on Saturday to storm damage in the city, including police, firefighters, utilities crews, public works employees and dispatchers.

In other business, the council:

• Approved an annual grant agreement between South Central Alabama Development Commission and the Troy Nutrition Center

• Approved the substance abuse policy for the Pike Area Transit System

The Troy City Council will meet again on Tuesday, January 28 at City Hall. The executive committee will meet upstairs at 4 p.m. and the council will convene in the City Council Chambers at 5 p.m.
