After being in action on Thursday evening, both the Troy men’s and women’s basketball teams will hit the court once again on Saturday afternoon.

The Troy men remain at home to take on Georgia State at 2 p.m., while the women are in Atlanta to take on the Panthers of Georgia State at 1 p.m.

The Troy men hosted a first place team at Trojan Arena for the second time in three games on Thursday night. The Trojans allowed Georgia Southern to shoot 54 percent in a 82-66 loss.

The loss for the Trojans dropped them to 7-12 overall and 3-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.

“This was a very disappointing performance by our team tonight,” head coach Scott Cross said after the loss. “We can’t lick our wounds so to speak because we have a quick turnaround and a big challenge in Georgia State on Saturday afternoon.”

Saturday’s challenge brings a Panthers team into Trojan Arena coming off a 72-63 win over South Alabama in Mobile on Thursday night. They come into the game with a 13-6 overall record and are 6-2 in conference play. They come into the game in a three-way for first place, meaning Troy’s game on Saturday will be their third-straight home game against a first place team.

The Panthers are led in scoring by Corey Allen who is averaging 14.9 points per game. He is one of three players averaging double figures.

The Trojans won their home game against the Panthers last season courtesy of a buzzer-beating shot by Jordon Varnado.

The Troy women’s team had their nine-game winning streak snapped against Louisiana last Saturday afternoon. They got back on the winning track on Thursday with a win over Georgia Southern. They hope to start another winning streak on Saturday.

–The Trojans now find themselves 13-3 overall and 4-1 in Sun Belt play. They sit in a four-way tie for first place with Coastal Carolina, Texas-Arlington and Arkansas State.

The Georgia State Panthers are coming off a loss to South Alabama on Thursday night and find themselves 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
