Burney’s 49 points not enough in Pike County’s loss to Eufaula

Despite a strong performance from Andres Burney, the Pike County Bulldogs lost a shootout against Eufaula in overtime 77-74 on Saturday afternoon in Brundidge.

Burney, who has been a double-double machine, finished with a season-high 49 points to go along with 16 rebounds and four blocked shots on Saturday.

The Trojans entered the fourth quarter trailing 59-47. They outscored the Tigers 20-11 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Bulldogs held the Tigers to seven points in overtime, but scored only four themselves, leading to a 77-74 loss.

Burney scored 19 of his 49 points in the first half and the Bulldogs went into halftime trailing 44-30.

Alongside Burney’s 49 points, the Bulldogs received a 10-point performance out of Caleb Foster that also had three rebounds and two assists. Jordan Hobdy and Amaghie Lampley each finished with five points, while K’Ahriyus Pennington had three and Omar Cumberbatch had two.

The Bulldogs will resume area play on Tuesday when they travel to take on Houston Academy.
