The Class 5A Area 3 Tournament got underway at Charles Henderson High School on Monday evening in Troy.

The evening began with second-seeded Carroll taking on three-seeded Greenville. Top seeded and number one Charles Henderson hosted Rehobeth in game two.

The Greenville Lady Tigers began the evening with a win over the Carroll Eagles to secure a spot in the area championship against the winner of Charles Henderson and Rehobeth.

The Lady Trojans secured the berth with a comfortable 76-14 win over the Lady Rebels.

The Lady Trojans got off to a flying start on Monday. Senior Samira Moore had 10 first quarter points and the Trojans went into the second leading 24-9. All nine Rebel points came by a way of the 3-point shot.

Makala Hobdy scored eight second quarter points and the Trojans went into halftime holding a 42-9 lead. The Trojans held the Rebels scoreless in the second quarter.

Niaira “Tuti” Jones finished the game with 23 points, while Moore finished with 22 and Hobdy had 11.

The Trojans will match up with Greenville in the championship game on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.
