As you sew so shall you reap.

That one letter variation in the English proverb makes is especially applicable to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Quilters.

The Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Quilters group was founded by Mamie Johnson. For 15 years or more the church quilters have gathered around the quilting bee and their intentions have been two-fold – to quilt the piece top in the frame and to support the church and its program through fundraisers made possible by their sewing.

On, Saturday, February 22, the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Quilters will host a spaghetti supper at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and a highlight of the supper will be the drawing for three quilts hand quilted by the quilters.

Mary Mitchell said the funds raised from the quilt raffled will be dedicated to the church building fund in support of the remodeling of two buildings on the property for future growth. One building will be for a youth center and the other for a parsonage

“A church parsonage would be very convenient for our minister and it would be great addition to our church, now and in the future,” Mitchell said. “We have three quilts to be raffled and all of the patterns are different. There’s the Sun Bonnet Sue pattern, a wonderful Christmas quilt pattern and a Troy Trojan quilt pattern. It would be exciting to win and just having a ticket in the raffle is fun.”

Each raffle ticket purchased gives the ticket holder three chances to win one of the colorful hand-quilted quilts.

The quilts will be numbered and a drawing will be held for the quilts according to the numbers.

“The holder of the first ticket drawn will have first pick of the three quilts,” Mitchell said. “The holder of the second ticket drawn will pick from the remaining two quilts and the holder of the third ticket drawn will get the remaining quilt.”

The quilts are valued at $350 each.

“We invite everyone to join us for our spaghetti supper at 6 p.m. February 22,” Mitchell said. “Raffle tickets will be available at the supper and are available from me or any of the quilters, Myrtle Weldon, Mary Beth Green, Kameron, Olgesby, Margaret McQuagge, Barbara Harris, Nikole Roberts and Mable Horn.
