Junior track student-athlete Burke Leonce has excelled on the track during his two-plus years at Troy University, but earlier this semester he excelled off the track and in the classroom.
Leonce participated in the 18th annual Troy University Intramural Debate and Speech Tournament. In that event there are five categories to win awards; including storytelling, informative speech, persuasive speech, prose and poetry. Out of the five categories, Leonce was able to win awards in three of those.
He was awarded first place in storytelling, second place in poetry and won first place in information speech. He was also named the Best Overall Speaker of the Tournament.
Leonce will have his name displayed on a plaque with all of the previous winners, with the plaque being displayed in the Hall School of Journalism and Communication.
The junior and the rest of the track and field program will participate in the Tiger Track Classic this weekend in Auburn.
