The City of Troy has suspended curbside recycling collection until April 13 due to the potential spread COVID-19 coronavirus.

“Due to the personal nature of employees’  close contact with recyclables during the sorting process, the City of Troy is temporarily suspending picking up curbside recycling,” Mayor Jason Reeves said Thursday. “The City is not ending the recycling program and still encourages residents to store their recyclables in their green or pink recycling cart.”

Any residents who do not have a cart can call 311 or 566-1133 to have one delivered.

In other closings on Thursday, Troy Band and Trust announced it would close all lobbies effective Monday, March 30.

“To ensure the safety of our customers and employees, beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, all locations of Troy Bank & Trust will close their lobbies while leaving drive-thru lanes open for business,” said Dianna Lee, marketing officer. Access to lobbies will be limited to appointment only.”

The Goshen Branch within the Goshen Co-op will be open on Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until noon, and on Fridays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“Customers will still be able to gain access to their safe deposit boxes, but it will be by appointment,” Lee said.  Simply call the location to make an appointment.”

Lee said the online banking, mobile banking and deposit,  Zelle, ATM, debit cards and telephone banking options remain available 24/7.

She encouraged customers with questions to visit the website or call their nearest location. “We are constantly monitoring this fluid situation,” she said.

In Brundidge, the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library announced Thursday that it is closing the library buildings to the public indefinitely, starting immediately.

Theresa Trawick, library director, said it is with heavy hearts that the library is closing. “We still encourage our patrons to use Ebooks on their smartphones, readers, computers and others,” Trawick said. “Those who need help getting started may call (334) 735-2145 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Our website offers digital resources, including Homework Alabama and Learning Express. Other resources for learning are available under ‘More’ on the Main Menu tab and Coronavirus Resources.”

Books available for take home will be placed on the library porches for pick-up.

“These books are free and we encourage Tupper’s supporters to take them home and enjoy,” Trawick said.

“Thank all of you for your understanding as we try to keep the library staff and library patrons safe during the pandemic,” Trawick said.
