Funding from the CARES Act is finding its way back to Troy and Pike County.

The Troy City Council on Tuesday took steps to allow the city agencies to benefit from COVID-19 stimulus funds.

The council approved a resolution allowing the Troy Municipal Airport to receive funds for operations and utilities as specified by the CARES Act, which designated $10 billion for economic relief to airports throughout the United States.

Melissa Sanders, planning and zoning coordinator, said the Troy Municipal Airport would receive $69,000 to assist with operating expenses, such as utilities.

The council also approved a resolution authorizing all city departments to seek supplemental funding through the CARES Act when opportunities arise.

“This basically allows us to take advantage of anything that comes up,” Reeves said. “A lot of these pools of money are very competitive, and we need to act quickly.”

The Pike County Commission expects to receive up to $58,000 in funding for the sheriff’s department to use for PPE and other supplies “The Secretary of State Office also received funding to assist with election expenses … and we will be receiving grant funding to help with the next two elections – the July runoff that was rescheduled due to COVID-19 and the general election,” said McKenzie Wilson, Pike County administrator.“I’m working with Probate Judge Michael Bunn now to prepare those applications.”
