The Brundidge City Council meeting on Tuesday night was at near capacity with several residents who are vying for seats on the council in attendance.

Those who attend the council meetings are required to wear masks and to be seated six feet apart, along with the mayor and council.

Mayor Isabell Boyd said each day new cases of COVID-19 are reported across the state and in Pike County.

“Thankfully, we have had no deaths here in the county from COVID-19 and I pray that we won’t have,” Boyd said. “We encourage our residents to wear masks and gloves, to wash their hands and practice social distancing. If we don’t, the numbers will continue to go up instead of down and there could be serious consequences.”

Boyd said there will be a USDA Farm to Family fresh food distribution from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on June 17. The food boxes will be distributed on a first-come basis. Those receiving the food boxes are to remain in their vehicles. The food boxes will be placed in the trunks.

Boyd commended the city employees in the street and water departments on the work that has been done to clear the debris from the April storm.

“Ramage Park had a large number of trees down so there was a tremendous amount of work to be done,” the mayor said. “A lot of work has been done and the park is looking good.”

The mayor also expressed appreciation to the administrative staff for the work that has been done on that side of the clean-up.

Assistant City Manager Willie Wright reviewed the changes to the Troy Regional Medical Center’s lease agreement with the city for the council’s consideration.

TRMC purchased Dr. Charles Linguiti’s medical practice that is housed in a city rental building. The council approved the lease agreement as it was presented.

In other business, the council appointed Brundidge City Manager Britt Thomas as the election manager for the municipal election on August 27.

The council reviewed the election officials for consideration for the municipal election. The election officials will be approved at an upcoming council meeting.

The Brundidge City Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Brundidge City Hall.

The meetings are open to the public.
