The Alabama Independent School Association has announced that Pike Liberal Arts School is the recipient of the 2019-2020 AISA Blue Ribbon School Award.
The AISA Blue Ribbon School Award program is sponsored by the AISA to recognize member schools with outstanding educational programs.
In announcing the award, the AISA determined that PLAS has demonstrated a high level of excellence in their academic and student programs and is a very worthy recipient of the Blue Ribbon School Award.
Pike Liberal Arts has received this distinction since 2002.
PLAS Headmaster Eric Burkett said it is an honor for Pike Liberal Arts to receive this distinguished award.
“Few schools achieve this award because it demands a rigorous process that exemplifies excellence in scholastic achievement, professional learning, student involvement and community interaction,” Burkett said.
“And, to have earned this recognition 19 years is an indication that, at PLAS, we continually strive to maintain excellence in all areas of education and to also encourage and motivate our students to be contributing members of their community.”
Burkett said a graduation requirement at PLAS is for each student to have completed 75 hours of community service, grades 9 through 12.
“We want our graduates to be well prepared for whatever career paths they take and to also be actively involved in the communities where they live and work,” he said. “Being named an AISA Blue Ribbon School is an indication that we are also meeting that goal.”
Burkett expressed appreciation to the AISA for the recognition and congratulated the PLAS faculty, students and parents on their commitment to excellence in education.
