Sarah Harris, Tasha Elmore and Rocky Paige powered the Troy Trojans’ softball team to two come-from-behind walk-off 2-1 victories Saturday night over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at the Trojan Softball Complex.

“Pitching has been solid for us all year, but for different people to come in and be big at the plate was great,” Troy head coach Melanie Davis said. “I am very happy for Sarah, who is a pure freshman who does everything right on and off the field. It was great to see her be the hero in the first game and then of course the two juniors came through in the second game. Tasha Elmore had that triple to lead that last inning off and Rock came in and hit that sacrifice fly on the very first pitch. It was a great team effort throughout the night.”

Troy (27-7, 10-1 Sun Belt) took the series with the Saturday sweep and grabbed sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt standings.

In game one of the doubleheader, Harris took a ball deep in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off home run. The hit was her first of the game.

WKU (17-10, 5-3) scored one run in the fourth inning, but Troy tied the score in the sixth inning when Heidi Johnson crossed the plate.

Elmore tripled to lead off in the bottom of the ninth inning and Rocky Paige hit a sacrifice fly to bring her home on the next pitch in game two. WKU again took an early lead with one run in the third inning this time, but Troy tied the game in the fifth when Katie Ely scored.

The Trojans threw Ashlyn Williams in the first game and she went the distance for a complete game, allowing one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking five.

Allison Moore started game two and went four innings before Williams came in for relief and went the final five innings in a nine inning game.

Moore allowed one run on five hits, struck out three and walked one. Williams (19-5) picked up her second win of the day, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out two.

“We have found a way to win and sometimes it is not real pretty, but we have had solid pitching throughout the year and I am extremely proud of both Ashlyn and Allison tonight,” Davis said.

The two teams finish off the series today beginning at 1 p.m.
