Montgomery – Trinity Presbyterian was too talented and too deep for the Goshen Eagles Friday night as the Wildcats ran away with a 47-6 win at Trinity’s Ragsdale-Boykin Field in Montgomery.

Trinity improved to 3-0 with the Class 3A, Region 4 victory, while Goshen stands at 0-1 after their first contest. Trinity was in Class 4A last season and dropped to 3A in the AHSAA reclassification, while Goshen moved up from 2A. The depth, talent, and experience of 29 juniors and seniors for Trinity was evident, while Goshen rebuilds after a large number of starters were lost to graduation of a year ago.

The Wildcats scored the first five times the offense got the ball in the contest. William Roberson got Trinity on the board with a 4-yard carry and Robert Gulledge added the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 8:54 showing in the first quarter.

Trinity quarterback John-David Bonner found Parker Patterson open for a 48-yard TD pitch and catch with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter, and less than one minute later the Wildcats recovered a Goshen fumble in the end zone for a Trinity touchdown, and it was 21-0 at the 4:47 mark of the first.

Mac McClinton carried it in for a 21-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, the extra point was wide, and it was 27-0.

Trinity extended its lead to 34-0 on a pass intercepted and returned by David Michael Lieux of 20 yards, and went up 41-0 on a 3-yard carry by Coleman Stanley with 3:19 to go in the first half.

The Wildcats received the kickoff to open the third quarter and moved 50 yards in eight plays, with Pruitt Lee taking it in for a seven yard touchdown, and a 47-0 advantage.

Goshen got on the board with 8:20 tp go in the fourth quarter when Peyton Stamey found Jeff Warrick open for a 26-yard touchdown strike, and it was 47-6.

Warrick had a huge night for Goshen, rushing for 35 yards, adding 97 yards in receiving and one touchdown, while registering eight total tackles including six unassisted.

The Eagles are at Childersburg on Sept. 11 for their next contest.
