Pike County shifted back to the “very high risk” category for COVID-19 on Friday.
The risk indicator dashboard was updated Friday morning by the Alabama Department of Public Health. Six counties – Pike, Bibb, Clay, Cleburne, Winston and Marion – were designated “very high risk.”
The calculations for each county’s risk of COVID-19 spread in the community is based on the number of new cases per day , over a 14-day window. If the number of cases is staying the same or increasing, the county is designated as “very high risk,” the highest risk category established by the ADPH.
According to the 10 a.m. Friday update, Pike County added six confirmed cases and six probable cases overnight Thursday, brining totals for each to 872 and 224, respectively. The 14-day percent positive rate pushed higher to 8.26 percent.
In addition to the ADPH county data, Troy University has reported 199 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among local students in the past 14 days, and a total of 314 cases among students since Aug. 3, when dorms reopened. The data for student cases is counted in their home county on the ADPH trackers.
Statewide, another 830 confirmed cases were added with 308 probable, bringing totals to 124,097 confirmed cases; 12,606 probable; and 2204 confirmed deaths since tracking began in March. Only 834 individuals were hospitalized statewide, and more than 54,230 are presumed recovered. The statewide 14-day positive rate is 10.72 percent.
