Troy Parks and Recreation is planning to move ahead with their soccer and flag football youth sport seasons amid Covid-19 concerns.
“We will still practice social distancing, and the fields will be spaced very far apart,” said David Dickey, Assistant Director and Youth Sports Coordinator.
Dickey, along with the staff of Troy Parks and Rec, will be holding a meeting next Monday night to decide on further safety measures as well as discuss other matters concerning the season.
“This meeting will help us get more details and logistics planed out for our soccer and flag football seasons this fall,” said Dickey. “We will also plan out our Covid-19 measures better during this meeting to help keep everyone safe.”
Troy Parks and Rec were planning on holding a tackle football season, but after parent concerns led to a lack of participation among all age groups, the sport was suspended for this season.
“We had a lot of parents who were concerned about Covid-19, and our numbers dropped,” said Dickey. “We also can’t ask 8 to 10 year old kids to do the same kinds of things juniors and seniors in high schools are doing right now to stay healthy.”
Exact dates and start times for games will be announced later.
