Pike Lib tops Northside Methodist in overtime

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots came from behind to knock off the Northside Methodist Knights on Thursday night by a score of 72-67 in overtime.
PLAS and Northside battled it out in the first quarter with the Knights holding a slim 14-10 lead going into the second quarter and leading 31-26 at halftime. Northside began to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 36-27 lead into the final period.
Pike Lib rallied in the fourth quarter and outscored the Knights 24-15 in the fourth with Will Rice scoring nine points in the period and Sawyer Keck scoring 13 to force overtime. In overtime, it was all Patriots as PLAS outscored Northside 11-6 with Keck scoring six points in overtime.
Keck led the way for PLAS with a career-high 29 points – 19 of those coming in the fourth quarter and overtime – and Rice tallied 17 points in the win. Jackson Mitchell also chipped in with 10 points.
The junior varsity boy fell 49-17 to Northside with Jackson Bowen scoring 11 points for PLAS. The varsity girls also fell 57-12 to Northside. Mary Holland Stephens led PLAS with six points.
In other area games, the Ariton boys knocked off Class 3A’s Straughn by a score of 34-33 with Lawson Leger knocking down a game-winner as time expire. Leger scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Ariton.
The Ariton girls fell 41-29 to Straughn. Nya Allen led Ariton with 15 points.
