Rose Marie Perdue
Rose Marie Perdue, a beloved mother and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, November 26, 2023, surrounded by both of her loving children. She was 69. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Cary Mauldin officiating Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing. A visitation was held at the funeral home one-hour prior service time, 1:00 p.m. Rose Marie was born July 20, 1954, in Bullock County to the late Clennie Riley of Troy and Maureen Winslow of Goshen. Mrs. Purdue was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Carswell of Troy, in addition to her mother and father.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Purdue of Banks; a son, Billy Carswell of Glenwood; a daughter, Shirley Little (Gregg) of Glenwood; a brother, Junior Riley of Goshen; three grandchildren: Blake (Christin) Little of Hueytown, Kevin Little of Glenwood and Charlsie Little of Auburn; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews.
Rose Marie, known for her vibrant personality and larger-than-life spirit, left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rose Marie was not only a loving mother but also a skilled truck driver who found great joy in her work. She dedicated herself to training newly hired drivers, sharing her knowledge and passion for the job. Her commitment and love for her work were evident to all who crossed her path. Her laughter was contagious, and her ability to make others smile was unparalleled. Rose Marie had an impressive and unforgettable personality that drew people to her. She had a special gift for connecting with others, and everyone who knew her was touched by her warmth and kindness. Rose Marie’s family and friends will forever remember the joy and love she brought into their lives. Her legacy is one of strength, laughter, and the ability to brighten even the darkest days. She had an uncanny knack for making people laugh, and her impressionable personality will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Compassus for their exceptional care during Rose Marie’s final days. Their support was invaluable and deeply appreciated. Rose Marie Perdue will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and laughter she so generously shared with the world.
Ruth Selman
Thompson
Ruth Selman Thompson, age 75, a resident of the Springhill community, died Monday, November 27, 2023, while on a trip to Savannah, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 1:30 PM from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with Dr. Ross Lankford and Rev. Andrew Knick officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.
Ruth was a graduate of the University of Alabama’s nursing program. She was a loving wife, doting mother, proud grandmother and compassionate daughter-in-law. She enjoyed travelling with friends, reading, keeping up with the exploits of her grandchildren and following sports of all types, with a particular interest in University of Alabama and Troy University football.
She is survived by her children: Michael Thompson (Sarah) of Hoover, Melissa Thompson Bradford (David) of Springhill; grandchildren: Carolyn Thompson of Hoover, K.C. Bradford of Springhill, Will Thompson of Hoover, Dawson Bradford of Springhill; sister-in-law: Sherry Selman of Great Falls, Virginia; nieces and nephews: Karen Selman Speck of Ozark, John L. Selman, III of Colman, South Dakota, and Kevin Selman of Great Falls, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband: William Key Thompson, Jr.; parents: John L. Selman and Mary Watson Selman; father-in-law: William Key Thompson, Sr.; and brother: John L. Selman, Jr.
The family extends its sincere thanks to Ruth’s friends who were on the Savannah trip for their care and compassion at the time of her passing.

William Earl
“Bill” Perdue
Mr. William Earl “Bill” Perdue a resident of Banks, AL passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at his home in Banks. He was 75. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Ramah Church with Pastor Charlie Newman and Pastor John Phil McLaney, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sandfield Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Bill was born November 23, 1948 in Ft. Deposit, AL. to the late Henry Wayne Perdue and Hazel Brown Perdue. He graduated high school, joined the U. S. Army, and went straight to Vietnam. When returning home from service he worked in construction building silos and tall buildings and later was a mechanic-technician before his retirement. He took great pride in serving his country and being a Vietnam Vet. Bill loved his family and will always be remembered for his laughter and his ability to tell the best jokes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Perdue, mother, Hazel Golden, and a brother, Kenneth “Bo” Perdue. He left behind his children, Shirley Little (Gregg) of Glenwood, Billy Carswell of Glenwood, Sonya Lehman of Wetumpka, AL. and Rhonda Clark of Smiths Station, AL; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, and his fur baby.
