Christmas is coming this weekend to the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. But Christmas comes in a very unique way. It comes at Ole Time Christmas!
Those who come to Old Time Christmas have the opportunity to step back in time and enjoy Christmas as it was when the pioneers were living, working and playing when Pike County was just being settled and when the pioneers were setting the place we call home.
Barbara Tatom, Pioneer Museum of Alabama director, said the museum staff and dedicated volunteers have planned a Friday and Saturday Ole Time Christmas that will be greatly enjoyed and times remembered.
“The museum has two days of Christmas fun and learning of all ages,” Tatom said. “Both days will have demonstrations and activities and appearance that are not to be missed,
Ole Time Christmas special guest will be man of the hours Santa Clause.
“And Santa will be ready to hear the Christmas wishes of all boys and girls,” Tatom said. “And the right Jolly Ol’ Elf will want photos taken so he can remember all the good children who live in and around Pike County.
Christmas stories will be told in the Little Red School House and how pioneer children celebrate Christmas.
For family enjoyment there will be a wood burning stove and hearth cooking.
There will be visitors from long ago who will tell how people in other countries celebrated Christmas. Christmas Stories will be told in, perhaps, another language but recognized.
There will be fiddle music and smores.
Children will write their letters to Santa, just so he won’t forget. They will color Christmas scenes, participate in scavenger hunt and in hands-on yarn doll making and cookie decorating with Mrs. Santa Claus.
At Ole Time Christmas on Friday, everyone will joy live music by the Montgomery Area Dulcimer Players and, on Saturday, live music will be on historical instruments.
Throughout Ole Time Christmas, the Old General Store will be open and stories will probably be told around the old pot bellied stove.
Everyone is invited to Ole Time Christmas. Admission is $10 for adults, seniors 60+ and military. $9, students, $8 and children 5 and under free. Museum members are also free.
