John Lewis Leadership Conference to be held Feb. 2-3

The annual John Robert Lewis Leadership Conference – held in conjunction with the City of Troy and Troy University – will be held Feb. 2-3 on the campus of Troy University.
The conference is designed to provide valuable information to enhance the quality of leadership and civic participation of community leaders, area residents and university students. The conference is named in honor of John Lewis, a Troy native who went on to become a renowned civil rights activist and longtime serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
This year’s conference keynote speakers include Same House Chief Executive Officer Rodney Bullard and educator and activist Michelle Summers. Same House is a public benefit corporation dedicated to furthering economic mobility and bridging social division. Bullard is a native of DeKalb County, Ga., and he attended the Air Force Academy, Duke Law School and has gone on to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney.
Bullard also served more than a decade as the head of social corporate responsibility for Chik-fil-A. Bullard has also served on a number of difference boards, including the Executive Leadership Council, Ameris Bank Board of Directors, National Defense Industrial Association Board of Directors, Leadership Atlanta, Salvation Army Board and more. He worked in the U.S. Department of Justice after serving in the United States Air Force for 13 years. He was also a White House Fellow, working with NASA, from 2005 until 2006.
Summers is a graduate of Alabama State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature. Summers has been an educator for more than 20 years and also become a prominent public speaker and activist. Summers, a Chicago, Ill., native, taught theater at Lee High School in Montgomery for a number of years.
