The Troy Trojans came back after losing game one of a Sun Belt Conference series with the ULM Warhawks this weekend to take the last two games and the series.
Troy dropped game one by a score of 4-3 on April 12. Libby Baker and Sarah Beth Brake both hit home runs for the Trojans. Baker got the win in the circle, striking out one batter and giving up seven hits and four earned runs.
The Trojans came back to take game two by a score of 4-2 on April 13. Baker went 2-for-3 at the plate with her second home run of the series along with two RBIs and a run. Savannah Money earned her first win as a starting pitcher, striking out three batters and giving up just three hits and no runs in six innings.
Troy closed out the series with a 7-2 win later in the day on April 13. D’Aun Riggs went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Jillian Williams also hit a home run. Baker got the win at pitcher, striking out a pair of batters and giving up seven hits and two earned runs in a complete game.
“It’s nice to get a series win. We dropped game one and then returned to win games two and three,” Troy Coach Eric Newell said. “It shows a lot of resiliency, a lot of grit, a lot of determination. You also can wash things, and I give a lot of credit to the seniors for that. It’s not that the underclassmen can’t do that, but the seniors have been around the block and have been a part of a lot of conference series over the years.
“They just have that thick skin. It was a great Sunday for us. We won the series against a tough ULM team. They were hot coming into this game. They had a win streak, I believe, coming into this game. To end that win streak by winning a couple of games Saturday and Sunday, I’m very proud of our girls.”
Troy is back on the road this weekend for a conference series against Georgia Southern April 19-21.
