Troy fights the weather to capture SBC series with Georgia State

The Troy Trojans (28-14, 11-7) battled the weather and the Georgia State Panthers (20-19, 10-8) in a weekend Sun Belt Conference series at home, winning two straight to take the series.
In game one on April 19, Georgia State defeated Troy by a score of 10-8 despite a late rally from the Trojans. Peyton Watts led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a run. Luke Lyon took the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs in five innings pitched. Logan Ross also pitched four innings and fanned five batters along with giving up six hits and one earned run.
Luke Boynton went 2-for-4 with a home run, one RBI and one run for Georgia State. Aidan McEvoy got the win on the mound, striking out five and giving up two hits and no runs in two and 2/3 innings pitched.
On April 20, Troy went into the ninth inning leading 9-3 when weather forced the game to be delayed until Sunday. On Sunday, Georgia State attempted a rally – scoring two runs in the top of the ninth – but Troy held on to tie the series with a 9-5 win.
Troy’s bats were hot in game two with the Trojans securing 15 total hits, two home runs and seven doubles as a team. Kole Myers went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run, while Tremayne Cobb Jr. went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, one RBI and two runs. Kyle Mock aslo went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Ben Arnett went 2-for-3 with a run and Brooks Bryan hit a two-run home run.
Clete Hartzog got the win on the mound, striking out four and giving up two hits and three earned runs in four innings pitched, while Garrett Gainous struck out four batters and gave up just one hit and no runs in his two innings pitched.
Michael Maginnis went 2-for-4 for Georgia State, while Will Mize hit a home run. Caleb White took the loss at pitcher, striking out three batters and giving up five hits and three earned runs in his two innings toeing the rubber.
Later in the day on April 21, Troy wrapped up the series with a 10-7 win over the Panthers. Mock went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs, while Myers went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Bryan also belted a grand slam home run in the Trojan win.
Jay Dill earned his first win of the season, striking out two and giving up three hits and two earned runs in two and 2/3 innings pitched. Connor Burt also earned his first save of the season, fanning three batters and giving up no hits or runs in one and 1/3 innings pitched. Grayson Stewart also pitched three and 1/3 innings and mowed down six batters along with giving up five hits and two earned runs. Noah Manning gave up five hits and three earned runs with one strikeout in his one and 2/3 innings pitched.
Brennan Hudson went 3-for-5 for Georgia State with a home run, a double, one RBI and two runs. JoJo Jackson also went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBIs and three runs. Sam Schofield took the loss on the mound, striking out four batters and giving up four hits and two earned runs in two innings pitched.
The series win keeps Troy in second place of the Sun Belt. The Trojans are on the road this weekend for a conference series at Coastal Carolina April 26-28. Troy and Coastal are tied with Southern Miss for second place in the SBC.
