The Troy Trojans (31-17, 11-7) earned a Sun Belt Conference softball series win over the Georgia Southern Eagles this weekend on the road.

Things started off rocky with the Trojans dropping game one by a score of 6-2 on April 19. Georgia Southern scored all six runs in the fourth inning.

Jade Sinness led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Jillian Williams hit a home run in the loss. Libby Baker took the loss in the circle, striking out one batter and giving up nine hits and five earned runs in five innings pitched.

For Georgia Southern, Emma Davis went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Anslie Pettit pitched a complete game and struck out four batters along with giving up six hits and two earned runs.

In game two on April 20, Troy trailed 3-1 going into the fifth inning when the Trojans scored five unanswered runs in the next two innings to pick up a 6-3 win.

Sinness went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, while Sarah Beth Brake went 2-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and one run.

Haley Pittman earned her sixth win in the circle, striking out two batters and giving up six hits and three earned runs in five innings pitched. Savannah Money also earned her first career save, striking out a batter and giving up no hits or runs in two innings pitched.

For Georgia Southern, Kyla Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and one run. Alana Barnard took the loss at pitcher, striking out two and giving up five hits and three earned runs in five innings pitched.

Troy closed out the series with an 8-7 win on April 21. Going into the seventh inning, Troy led 7-5. In the top of the seventh, Troy’s Cassidy Boltz hit an RBI single that drove D’Aun Riggs home for what would end up being the winning run to put Tory up 8-5.

In the bottom of the seventh, Georgia Southern’s Janai Conklin blasted a two-run homer that brought the Eagles within one run but the Trojans held on for the 7-5 win.

“That was a dogfight, and we are happy to come out on top,” Troy Coach Eric Newell said. “It took every last out, every last at-bat, every last pitch and this team kept battling. I am very proud of the determination that this team has. The five spot in the fourth inning was the difference in the game in a lot of ways. You never really know how many runs it’s going to take to win a ball game, but it took every single one of them today.”

For Troy, Riggs went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run. Boltz went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Brake hit her second homer of the series. Baker earned her 13th win in the circle, giving up three hits and two earned runs in four innings pitched.

For Georgia Southern, Kyleigh Richardson took the loss in the circle giving up two hits and four earned runs in one inning pitched.

Troy remains tied for fourth place in the Sun Belt with James Madison. The Trojans host rival South Alabama this weekend for another conference series April 26-28.
