Troy Softball secures No. 5 seed in upcoming Sun Belt Tournament

The Troy Trojans closed out the 2024 softball regular season this weekend, dropping a Sun Belt Conference series to No. 17 Louisiana.
Troy won game one by a score of 3-0 on May 2. Sarah Beth Brake led the Trojans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and one run. Savannah Money earned her second win in the circle, striking out a batter and giving up one hit and no runs in two and 1/3 innings pitched. Libby Baker also claimed her first save of the year, giving up one hit and no runs in two and 1/3 innings pitched.
Troy dropped game two by a score of 11-7 on May 3. Despite Troy jumping out to a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning, Louisiana rallied to score 11 unanswered runs.
Brake hit her second home run of the series and Libby Baker also hit a grand slam home run in the loss for the Trojans. Taylor McKinney also went 2-for-3 with two runs. Money took the loss in the circle, giving up four hits and thee earned runs in one and 2/3 innings pitched.
Louisiana claimed the series win with a 4-1 victory on May 4. Baker and Brake both went 2-for-3 at the plate, while McKinney hit a double and scored Troy’s lone run. Baker pitched all six innings and gave up six hits and two earned runs.
Troy now heads into the Sun Belt Softball Tournament as the No. 5 seed, earning a first round bye. The Trojans will face off against No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. on May 9 on ESPN+. This year’s tournament will take place in San Marcos, TX.
