The Salvation Army will celebrate National Salvation Army Week May 13 to May 19.
National Salvation Army Week was declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, and since then it has served as an annual reminder of the vast scope of services and ways people can help by giving generously of themselves.
Today, the Salvation Army works in more than133 countries worldwide. Here in the United States, the Salvation Army is issuing a rallying cry for Americans to “Love Beyond,” said Donna Kidd, manager/director of the Pike County Salvation Army Service Center, 509 South Brundidge Street in Troy.
“In doing so the message is simply that, when we love beyond the circumstances of life, we can provide hope and help for millions who need it,” Kidd said.
National Salvation Army Week presents a wonderful opportunity for the residents here in Pike County, to let the community know more about the work the Salvation Army does for friends and neighbors in need.
“And, we want to recognize and celebrate the donors, partners, supporters and volunteers who make the ministry of the Salvation Army possible,” Kidd said. “We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate National Salvation Army Week, May 13-19 at the Service Center here in Troy.
Kidd added the local Salvation Army Service Center in Troy will be having sales all week in the thrift store and will be serving the community a free hotdog lunch on Thursday, May 16.”
