This weekend, Guntersville basketball star Jackson Porch committed to accept a preferred walk-on offer with Troy University Basketball next season.
Porch is coming off a 2023-2024 senior season that saw him earn All-County MVP and All-State honors, averaging 18 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.6 steals per game. During his high school career, the 6-foot-1-inch guard earned All-County and All-Region honors twice and was named to the Class 5A All State Tournament Team.
Porch helped lead Guntersville to the Final Four this season, putting up 26 points, eight boards, three assists and five steals in the Final Four against Vigor. Porch is also a member of the Rocky City Suns AAU team. He scored 41 points in the HoopSeen Bama Cup Semifinals earlier this month.
Porch joins a signing class that includes fellow PWO Austin Cross, a Troy native, along with brothers Cobi and Cooper Campbell. Cobi Campbell is a junior college transfer from North Idaho College, while Cooper Campbell played in the prep school ranks this past season. Troy’s biggest offseason accomplish, no matter who signs, may be retaining All-Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Marcus Rigby Jr., however. In the age of the Transfer Portal, retaining key players will be pivotal for every school every offseason.
