Troy lands commitment from Cal transfer Marquez Dortch

On Friday, wide receiver Marquez Dortch announced his decision to transfer to Troy University from the University of California at Berkley.
Dortch is a 6-foot, 170-pound speedster from Lucedale, Miss., who started his college career at Mississippi State. Dortch played for George County High School, where he earned Alabama-Mississippi All-Star honors as a senior. He recorded 41 catches for 660 yards and seven scores as a senior with 207 yards and another score in kickoff returns.
He was a four-star rated prospect coming out of high school and signed with Mississippi State. Dortch caught one pass in one game as a freshman in 2022 and transferred to Cal last season. He didn’t play at Cal this past season and entered the transfer portal following the spring. Dortch will come to Troy with three years of eligibility left. He committed to Troy over offers from schools like Marshall, Akron and Buffalo.
Also on Thursday, Troy earned a commitment from junior college (JUCO) defensive back Daivon Nelson. Nelson is a sophomore at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. The 6-foot-3-inch, 190-pound Tempe, Ariz., native recorded 18 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, nine pass breakups and an interception last season. Nelson played cornerback, safety and nickelback at Hutchinson. He committed to Troy over an offer from Western Michigan and will come to Troy with three years of eligibility remaining.
