Troy Post 70 goes undefeated at Border Battle

The Troy Post 70 19U baseball team traveled to Tuscaloosa this weekend and went undefeated in the Alabama/Mississippi Border Battle.
Post 70 kicked things off with a 7-0 shutout win over Tuscaloosa Post 34 on June 7. Enterprise’s Brady Richardson – a future Troy Trojan – went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Pike Lib’s Will Rice pitched four innings and struck out three batters, while giving up one hit and no runs. Aiden Wright also struck out five and gave up one hit and no runs in two innings on the mound.
Later in day one, Troy topped Tupelo Post 49 from Mississippi by a score of 7-2. Dothan’s Blake Wynn went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Richardson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Gunner Justice scored two runs. Dothan’s Brody Lindsey pitched four innings and struck out five batters along with giving up four hits and one earned run in four innings pitched. Opelika’s Jackson Kilcreas struck out five and gave up one hit and no runs in three innings pitched.
Troy followed that up with a 4-1 win over Hattiesburg Post 24 from Mississippi on June 8. Justice went 1-for-1 with a run, while future Troy Trojan Cody Markham, Headland’s Evan Taylor and Wynn scored one run. Cole Hewitt pitched five innings, fanning six batters and giving up two hits with no runs.
Post 70 finished up the weekend in dominant fashion, besting Brandon Post 68 from Mississippi by a score of 11-0. Houston Academy’s Cam Dyer hit a home run, while Providence Christian’s Matt Snell went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs. Troy native Payne Jefcoat went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Wicksburg’s Easton Dean pitched four innings and struck out five batters along with giving up two hits and one earned run. Cody Walsh also struck out five and gave up one hit and no runs in three innings of work on the mound.
Future Troy Trojan Brady Richardson earned a .667 batting average on the weekend with a double, five RBIs and three runs. Fellow future Troy University teammate Cody Markham finished the weekend with a .250 batting average, two RBIs and four runs. Markham and Richardson also earned perfect fielding percentages on defense. Jefcoat finished the weekend with a perfect fielding percentage, along with 24 putouts, two assists and a double play.
The Troy Post 70 17U squad also went 4-1 at the Steel City Baseball Classic in Birmingham. Goshen’s Tyler McLendon earned a .200 batting average with a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Pike Lib’s Cole Garrott also boasted a .200 batting average. McLendon pitched three innings and struck out two batters along with giving up three hits and one earned run. Garrott also pitched three innings and fanned two batters, while giving up two hits and no runs. McLendon earned a .929 fielding percentage with 13 putouts, while Garrott held a perfect fielding percentage and six putouts.
