The City of Troy in known for its league championships in several different sports.

Now, the city can take pride in, yet, another prestigious championship … bowling.

The Troy Oddballs are the champions of the Elite division of the National Senior Bowling League.

The Troy Nutrition Center Our teams are always competitive, said Jessica Cox, office manager, of the Troy Nutrition Center.  Each team has a captain who motives and encourage the teammates. The four teams are considered a community and each team encourages the other. The TNC had four teams this season, the Oddballs, Troy Rays, Troy Misfits and the Troy Oddballs.

“There are seven divisions in the competition and all four TNC teams ended the season in the same division, the Elite division,” Cox said. “That means our bowlers average a score of between 200-220 a game. They competed against 400 teams representing 44 communities from 24 states with 744 registered. 

“We register for the season, and then put in preliminary scores to determine which division each team plays in” Cox said the NSL sends out the center’s schedule and the names of the teams we play against. They do not have to travel anywhere. The Nutrition Center has 4 teams this season. Troy Rays, Troy Misfits, Troy Oddballs and Troy Amigos. Each team has a Captain and motivates their team to practice and encourages their team mates to keep going. These 4 teams are considered a community. There are 7 different divisions in this competition and all 4 of our teams ended up in the same division. The Elite 1 Division, which means our bowlers average about a score of 200 to 220 a game. They competed against 140 teams representing 44 communities from 24 states with 744 registered bowlers.

The members of the TNC bowling teams practice at TNC for seven weeks. They bowl two games, back to back, and that counts are their match for the week.

As the team ‘coach, Cox records their scores on line to the NSL commissioner.

“The Troy Oddballs won their conference and received a certificate,” Cox said. “They also got to play for another four weeks in a ‘one and tournament.” The played their hearts out and ‘brought home’ the trophy.”

Cox said all four TNC bowling teams are to be congratulated.

“Bowling is fun game and we always have opportunities for more bowlers and more teams,” Cox said.

All senior adults are invited to be a part of the fun and learning activities at the TNC.
