Troy Post 70 goes undefeated in Summer Classic

The Troy Post 70 19U baseball team hosted its annual Summer Classic this past weekend and came away undefeated, taking the tournament championship.
Post 70 hosted the tournament at Troy University’s Riddle-Pace Field and Charles Henderson High School. In game one, Troy defeated Shelby County Post 555 by a score of 8-0 on Friday. Future Troy Trojan and Enterprise native, Brady Richardson went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Florala’s Cody Walsh (LBW) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Dothan’s Brody Lindsey (Southern Union) pitched five innings and fanned five batters, while giving up three hits and no runs.
Next, Troy opened up Saturday with a 2-1 win over Shelby County (NC) Post 82. With the game tied 1-1 at the bottom of the seventh inning, Post 70’s Opelika native Jackson Kilcreas (Chipola) hit a walk-off single that drove Dothan’s Porter Dykes (Chipola) in for the winning run. Richardson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and one run. Pike Road’s Cody Markham (Troy University) went 2-for-3 at the plate. Walsh pitched five innings and fanned a pair of batters, along with giving up three hits and one earned run.
Next, Troy picked up an 11-3 win over Belleview Post 284 (Fla.). Troy native Payne Jefcoat (Wallace) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Ariton’s Caden Collier (Chat Valley) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Markham went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and one run. Pike Lib’s Will Rice (Wallace) struck out four batters and gave up two hits and three earned runs in three innings on the mound.
Post 70 claimed the tournament crown with a 6-0 shutout win over the Alabama Outlaws on Sunday. Jefcoat went 1-for-1 at the plate with a pair of runs, while Richardson and Markham scored one run each. Richardson also pitched one inning and struck out one batter along with giving up no hits or runs. Dothan’s Cole Hewitt (ESCC) pitched five innings and struck out five, while giving up five hits and no runs.
Troy Post 70’s 17U team also went 4-0 this weekend with 12-2 and 9-5 wins over the Tupelo (Miss.) 49ers, a 9-4 win over the Dothan Expos and a 13-0 win over the Perdido Bay (Fla.) Blues.
In game one, Pike Lib’s Cole Garrott scored one run, while Ariton’s Aven Cook and Goshen’s Tyler McLendon scored one run each. McLendon also struck out a pair of batters and gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched. In game two against Tupelo, Garrott went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run. Pike Lib’s Kade Brookins pitched two innings and struck out one batter, while giving up three hits and two earned runs.
Against Dothan, Garrott went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and two runs, while Cook scored two runs. Drew Shiver pitched three innings and struck out six batters along with giving up six hits and three earned runs.
Against Perdido Bay, McLendon went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and one run, while Garrott went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Garrott also gave up no hits or runs in one inning pitched.
The 19U team heads to Tupelo, Miss., this weekend for the King City Classic.
