If there is a more patriotic county than Pike County, Alabama let it be known.

Pike County is geared up and ready for Independence Day or the Fourth of July with parades, amazing fireworks displays, barbecues, picnics and just enjoying being together in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

The red-white and blue salute to America will get off to an early start with the Brundidge Independence Day Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29. The parade will begin on Veterans Boulevard and will follow a Main Street route through the downtown area.

There is no parade lineup, just come, get in line and join in the salute to America.

The City of Brundidge also invites everyone to spectacular fireworks display at first dark on June 29. The fireworks display can best be viewed from the parking lot at the Pike County High School gymnasium. Ramage Park will be closed during the fireworks display.

On the Fourth of July, the Meeksville Fire Department will host its annual Fourth of July Parade at 10 a.m. from the Meeksville Fire Station. The parade route will end at Harmony Park where there will be barbecue, potato salad, beans and desserts and entertainment. The parade is open to all who enjoy the freedoms that come with living in America.   

And, there’s no better way to celebrate America’s freedom than with a spectacular fireworks display at night fall on the Fourth of July.

Knowing that, the City of Troy and Troy Parks and Recreation will present an amazing and thrilling fireworks display at 8:30 sharp on the night of the Fourth of July at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The stadium will open at 6 p.m., however, there will be no program. Viewing is always great from within the stadium and also from the Charles Henderson High School parking lot.

There are many places in Troy to enjoy the fireworks extravaganza.

In observance of Independence Day, all city of Troy offices and services will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

Along with city offices being closed, there will also be no sanitation, recycling or grass picked up on July 4. Thursday’s route will be moved up to Wednesday, instead.

All city services will return to regular schedules following July 4.
