“Take Control of Your Business,” an event of the Summer Workshop Series, was held on Wednesday afternoon at the IDEA Bank on the square in downtown Troy.
After lunch, Charla Brown, Ph.D. assistant professor, Troy University, Sorrell College of Business, pictured, was the opening speaker. Brown emphasized Walt Disney’s business model: The goal of marketing is to create a customer who is so loyal, they will never consider buying from anyone else. She offered ideas on ways to create a loyal customer base.
Dianna Lee, Pike County Chamber executive assistant, was also a featured speaker at the
workshop.
Lee said it was important that a product is branded to reflect the desired message.
She also stressed the fact that there are advertising avenues other than social media.
“We need to remember and consider that there are traditional ways to advertise,” Lee said. “In addition to social media, other advertising opportunities include radio, television, newspapers and billboards- are ways to consider in getting advertising messages out.”
Lee said advertising should not be limited to a certain area but should be planned to meet a wide variety of people with varied interests and needs.
Jerry Johnson, owner of Sienna Cloud Creative, art/design studio in downtown Troy, said he takes advantage of different opportunities that will benefit him in his individual business and also with the businesses around the square and all downtown Troy.
