The upper gallery at the Johnson Center for the Arts is getting a facelift. The walls were originally painted a yellow cream color but are being painted Chantilly Lace white to better accommodate the artwork that is featured in a wide variety of shows that hang in the main gallery.

The  upgrade to the gallery was made possible through a donation from Ace Lawrence Paint and Hardware in Troy and Benjamin Moore Paint.

Reba Allen, JCA graphic artist, said the JCA is very appreciative of the local support for the paint project.

“The change in color of the gallery has been suggested by  local artist as well as exhibiting artists whose artwork has been featured in the upper gallery,” Allen said. “The artists have  said the cream color doesn’t complement their work while white creates pure space  where art can be experienced without distractions.”

Allen said the color white makes artists work more vibrant and with fewer distractions than color or colors and added that the JCA  is dedicated to providing the best space for exhibiting artists and those who view their work.

The JCA is looking forward to the new look upper gallery with the assurance that it will provide a better art experience for both the artists and viewers.
