Work recently started at Troy University at the lagoon and the area leading up the hill to the Janice Hawkins Park and the Trojan Amphitheatre. The project is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2025.
Troy University stated, “Troy University has begun work on the final phase to restore and beautify the campus lagoon and surrounding grounds. Over the years, a large amount of silt has settled into the lagoon, reducing its depth, and negatively affecting clarity. The lagoon, the major source of water to irrigate the practice golf course, has been drained to dig out the silt, restoring the lagoon’s original depth.
Additionally, work will be done to clean up and improve the landscaping and watershed of the surrounding area, including construction of an enhanced down-stream water flow system from the Janice Hawkins Cultural Arts Park retaining pond to the lagoon. The finished project will include new walking trails and improved lighting. Work is expected to continue through Spring 2025.”
