The Pike County Salvation Army Service Center and Thrift Store in Troy is busier than ever.
Donna Kidd, Center manager, said, usually, at this time of year, the service center is extremely busy one day a week but, this year, the center is that busy two days and more.
“We continue to have so many requests for assistance especially with utilities and groceries and, of course, there are a variety of other needs, including back to school clothes and shoes,” Kidd said. “The center’s food pantry empties almost every day, so we are having a hard time keeping up with food needs,” Kidd said. “Food prices are so high and utilities are the same, so even those who work fulltime, are struggling.
“Gas is not as high as it has been, but, when you have to drive to work and other necessary places, it all adds up.”
Kidd said donations to the food pantry are greatly needed, as are contributions that help meet other needs.
“We appreciate the support of our community throughout year,” Kidd said. “It helps make a positive difference in many lives.”
The Pike County Salvation Army is located at 509 South Brundidge Street in Troy.
