Troy’s Baylor Pennington captures gold at state swim meet

Recently, Troy native Baylor Pennington earned a first place finish at the ARPA State Swim Meet in Opelika.

Pennington took the gold in the 14U 50-yard freestyle event at the state meet, which qualifies him for the compete at a national swim meet, with a shot at a national championship. Pennington also took a fifth place finish in the 100 intermediate medley and fourth in the 100-meter freestyle in his age group. Pennington is also a member of Troy Parks and Recreation’s Troy Tiger Sharks and the Troy Torpedoes year-round swim team.

A total of 22 Troy Tiger Sharks competed at the state swim meet. Piper Pennington earned a seventh place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and Oliver Parker took fourth in the 25-yard freestyle.

Pennington is the third Troy native to win an ARPA State Championship, joining Addi Bruner and Sara Catherine from previous years.
