With the first full week of fall camp in the books, the Troy Trojans now set their sights on the first scrimmage of the fall this Thursday.

Troy practiced four straight days in week one, wrapping things up with a physical practice inside Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday. After a day off, Troy returned to the practice field on Monday.

“It was good,” Troy Coach Gerad Parker said of the first week. “Today we got a little bit of a blessing from upstarts (with the weather). Our guys ran around like it and I think that helped us. We got some good reps – and good periods – in. I think that day off paid off for our guys.”

On Thursday, Troy will host its first scrimmage of the fall inside Veterans Memorial Stadium, which will give the Trojan coaching staff its first look at the team in game-like situations.

“It will be adding another physical piece of this whole thing for us,” Parker said of the first scrimmage. “We’ll go our first full day of practice in pads (on Tuesday) and have our first scrimmage on Thursday under the lights. Those two pieces really add that physical piece to us and we’ll keep adding installs and see our team finish strong.”

Parker said that he anticipates by the first day of classes – after the third week of fall camp – that the coaching staff will begin to form the depth chart. Troy will then shift gears to begin preparing for week one against Nevada.

“We’ll flip the switch at that point,” Parker continued. “We’ve already done our homework (on Nevada) but that’s when we’ll shift gears and start getting ready for game one.”

In the first week of practices, Parker said that the receivers and cornerbacks have jumped out to him.

“I think the first thing that flashes in my mind would be the youth and immaturity, but also the athleticism, in the wide out room,” said Parker. “Some of those are new faces and some are familiar faces. Our corner(back) depth is a surprise. I’m surprised with how deep we are at corner. The transfers and freshmen have really shown up in these first practices and are adding to our depth.”
