After much discussion, thought and prayer with my family and friends I have made the decision to announce my Retirement from the Troy Police Department effective September 30, 2024.

My career in law enforcement began April 10, 1989, at then, Troy State University. I began working for the Troy Police Department on May 30, 1991. After 35 ½ years in the greatest profession ever, there has never been a day when I did not want to put on my uniform and go to work. When I tell you it has been my honor, I mean that whole heartedly. The last nine years serving as the Chief of Police for this great City have been the highlight of my career. I have been given opportunities that I never dreamed for myself, but God made a way for me to experience this incredible journey.

My career has been filled with many exciting adventures and so much fun, but I have also experienced much sadness during this same period. I’ve experienced the loss of fellow officers, the death of small children and the senseless murders of our citizens. I hope in some way I was able to give the families of these tragedies some comfort in knowing that our Police Department would be there for them in their time of need.

I must thank my wife Sheri and my sons Cody and Brady for their support and sacrifices that they have endured during my career. I know there have been many times that work interfered with family time, but I hope that you understood why there was a need for sacrifice. I love each of you very much!!

To the former and current Police Officers and staff of the Troy Police Department I want to thank you for your tireless dedication to the City of Troy. You are truly the best of the best. I am so blessed; it has been my honor to have worked beside you over the past 33½ years.

I also want to thank Mayor Reeves and the past and present council members for your dedication to the City of Troy and for the support that you have shown me and my staff at the Troy Police Department. Finally, I want to say thank you to the Citizens of Troy for the support you have shown to me and my staff at the Troy Police Department throughout my career. It has meant the world to me to be the recipient of so much love, support and encouragement during this time.

As my career comes to an end, I can assure you that my colleagues and the Troy Police Department are well positioned to continue the outstanding professional service that you expect, and the citizens of this great city deserve. I ask that you keep me and my family in your prayers as the next chapter begins.

Stay safe and may God bless you all.

Randall
