Troy Post 70 drops 14-inning battle with North Dakota in World Series

Troy Post 70 fell by a score of 5-4 to North Dakota in the second round of the American Legion 19U World Series in North Carolina on Friday in a game that faced a rain delay and ultimately went into extra innings.
The two sides were tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when a rain delay was called. When the game returned to play neither side managed to score a run again until Troy’s Blake Wynn scored on an error in the top of top of the 10th inning to put Post 70 up 3-2. North Dakota answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the 10th to force the game into more innings.
In the top of the 13th inning, Troy University signee Cody Markham hit an RBI single into right field that drove Gunner Justice in to put Post 70 up 4-3. North Dakota once again answered in the bottom of the inning to tie things up 4-4.
In the bottom of the 14th inning, though, North Dakota scored on an error to give them the 5-4 win.
Markham was the only Post 70 player to earn two hits on the day. He also earned an RBI, while Matt Snell scored two runs and both Justice and Wynn scored one run.
Aiden Wright pitched three and 2/3 innings and struck out five batters, while giving up three hits and no earned runs. Cody Walsh pitched two and 2/3 innings, striking out five and giving up two hits and no earned runs. Easton Dean also struck out three and gave up six hits and one earned run in one and 2/3 innings on the mound.
Troy native Payne Jefcoat earned 10 putouts on defense. Troy had two errors as a team.
Post 70 returns to play on Sunday against League City (Texas) at 6 p.m.
