After playing each other in a preseason jamboree last week, both the Charles Henderson Trojans and Pike County Bulldogs will open the 2024 football season this week.
Charles Henderson will host Highland Home this Thursday, Aug. 29. Charles Henderson got things started with a hard-fought 6-0 win over Pike County in the jamboree last week. The Trojans were battling a number of injuries heading into the preseason battle and will hope to come into the regular season a bit more healthy.
Meanwhile, Highland Home – a 2A program – is coming off a week zero win over Class 3A’s Straughn by a score of 38-9 in the Flying Squadron’s season opener. Highland Home is coming off a 10-2 season in 2023 and the Squadron has gone a combined 22-4 over the previous two seasons.
This is only the second time these two schools have ever met on the football field, with the Trojans winning the first game 42-0 in 2004.
Charles Henderson and Highland Home will face off at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, Pike County – in its first year back in Class 4A – will open the regular season this Friday, Aug. 30, against Class 3A’s Houston Academy. Houston Academy is coming off a resounding 45-12 win over GW Long in the season opener last week.
Pike County and Houston Academy are tied 2-2 in the two’s previous four matchups, dating back to 2018. From 2018 through 2023 the two schools were region opponents. Houston Academy is on a two-game winning streak over Pike County, beating the Bulldogs 10-0 last season and 21-20 in 2022.
Pike County will host Houston Academy in Brundidge at Bulldog Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday.
