The Charles Henderson Trojans (2-1, 2-0) are on the road this Friday, Sept. 20, for a Class 5A, Region 2 showdown with the undefeated Montgomery Catholic Knights (4-0, 1-0).

Charles Henderson is coming off a Saturday region win over Carroll this past weekend.

“For a sudden change like we had (in game days) I felt like we played a pretty decent game,” CHHS Coach Quinn Hambrite said. “It wasn’t a clean game, we had a lot of penalties, some of which costed us a few touchdowns. We’re straightening that up and we’re back at it right now preparing for Catholic.”

Meanwhile, Montgomery Catholic is in its first year in 5A, after winning a state championship in Class 4A last season. Thus far this season, Montgomery Catholic has been dominant but won a tough matchup 28-14 with Catholic Pensacola (Fla.) last week. The Knights also have wins over St. James 42-14, St. Clair County 51-14 and Eufaula 28-0.

“Catholic is a well-oiled machine, they know what they’re doing and they do what they’re supposed to and you won’t find them out of place,” emphasized Hambrite. “That’s an advantage for them and they’re going to read their keys and they’re good in the trenches. We have to bring our A-Game in order to compete this week, we have to be disciplined in all three phases of the game.”

Charles Henderson’s two-headed monster in the backfield – Nemo Williams and Antonio Frazier – is starting to shine this season, compiling a combined for 270 total yards and three touchdowns against Carroll last week.

“They had over 200 yards rushing in the last game. Nemo brings a power dynamic, running down hill, and when he’s in space not too many high school athletes want to tackle him at full speed,” continued Hambrite. “He’s a force to be reckoned with and Antonio has been playing for four years, so he’s a veteran in the game.
“He’s savvy and knows how to make people miss and score touchdowns. His hands have gotten a lot better and we’re using him in space. Keeping them in the game at the same time is something we’re doing more to keep defenses off balance because you don’t know where the ball’s going.”

Montgomery Catholic holds the all-time series lead over Charles Henderson 2-1, including a 50-0 win in 2021. Montgomery Catholic will host Charles Henderson at Catholic Field in Montgomery at 7 p.m. on Friday.
