The Johnson Center for the Arts hosted an artists’ reception for Mary Holman Johnson, a Troy native, and Chintia Kirana, a Chinese-Indonesia born America artist, on Thursday evening.

Johnson describes herself as an experimental artist working in several media forms “Where the muse takes me.” She is pushing the boundaries of paper and paint to create complex tonal textural images by using the gel plate mono printing process.

Kirana is best known for her abstract and minimalistic work exploring identity, passage of time and spiritualism.  Her art practice includes curator projects and socially engaged community arts.

Al Head, former Trojan and retired executive director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, attended the artists’ reception for Mary Holman Johnson and Chintia Kirana on Thursday. Head’s leadership has provided funding, growth and long-ranging planning for the arts throughout the state, said Reba Allen JCA graphic artist. Allen and Mary Hobdy, facilities, expressed appreciation to Head for attending the artists’ talk and his continuing his strong support of the arts “here at home and throughout the state. “
