The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (4-1) will take a break from region play this week to host the Notasulga Blue Devils (1-3) for a Homecoming matchup on Sept. 27.

Pike is coming off a dominant 61-12 Class 2A, Region 3 win over Barbour County last week, while Notasulga dropped its third straight loss of the year against Keith by a score of 22-0.

“Our guys played well,” PLAS Coach William Moguel said of the Barbour County win. “I’m proud of our (junior varsity) guys that got to play and our varsity kids did a good job.”

Running back Dalton Jordan had a big night against Barbour County, scoring four touchdowns, and has a big season already for the Patriots.

“He’s a great asset for us, he solidifies our running back position,” Moguel said of Jordan. “He runs the ball like he plays linebacker. He’s very violent when he runs the ball, he’s not scared to lower his shoulder. He’s been a great asset for us this season.”

Unlike a lot of the teams on Pike’s schedule this season, Notasulga is no stranger to the Patriots. The two sides met last season in a 31-8 Pike win on the road.

“They’ve done a good job this season, they have a lot of athletes and speed,” Moguel said of Notasulga. “We have to try and contain that speed. They have some great athletes that can really run.”

Moguel said that the majority of Pike’s focus the last few weeks has been on improving themselves.

“We just want to get better from last week,” he emphasized. “These last couple of weeks we’ve really been working on us, trying to get us better. We’re working on getting penalties down and getting our mental mistakes down and we’re really stressing those things.”

Pike will host the Blue Devils for Homecoming at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.
