The Charles Henderson Trojans (2-2) will look to get back on track this Friday, Sept, 27, for a non-region road game against the Benjamin Russell Wildcats (2-3).
The Trojans are coming off a frustrating 63-6 region loss to Montgomery Catholic this past week. Head coach Quinn Hambrite said he wants to see his team get healthy more than anything moving forward.
“I just want to see us get healthy,” he said. “Once we get healthy I think we’ll be fine.”
While Hambrite is aware of the injury bug that continues to bite the Trojans, he also says that’s not something his team can use as an excuse. Hamrbite pointed out the acronym of HEART that Trojans boast on workout T-shirts to back up that point.
“The H is for Hungry, E is for effort, A is for accountability, R is for relentless and T is for toughness,” he emphasized. “We have to play with those types of things and attitudes to be successful. We have to have that next man up mentality. Injuries are no excuse, everyone has to prepare like they’re a starter. You have to prepare like that even if you don’t start that day, so that you’ll be ready when your time comes.”
Benjamin Russell is coming off a frustrating loss of its own, 42-15 to Spain Park last week. The Wildcats also hold losses to Opelika and Central Clay County this season along with wins over Calera and Chilton County.
“They’re a big, 6A school, so they have some big bodies over there,” said Hambrite. “If we can manage up front, make sure we have the trenches situated and on one accord, we’ll be fine. We have to make sure we can control the box and if we do that we give ourselves a chance to win the game.”
This will be the first time that Charles Henderson and Benjamin Russell have ever met on the football field. The two sides play at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Martin-Savarese Stadium in Alexander City.
