The Brundidge Historical  Society has postponed the fall season of Alabama’s Official Folklife Play, “Come Home, It’s Summertime” until  early 2025.

BHS President Johnny Garrett said, after thoughtful and  careful consideration, the BHS members and cast members of “Come Home” made the decision to post-pone the folklife play based on Hard-Times and those who lived them.

The first performance of “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” was in 2001 and more than 24,000 people have “come home” to the We Piddle Around Theater during the past 23 years.

And, Garrett said, a carefully thought decision  was made.

“Several veteran cast members would not be with us for the  fall production and there are other roles to be filled,” Garrett said and,  with so many other events in the fall – football, homecomings,  festivals,  arts and craft show and, this year,  a Presidential Election, it was best for us to postpone the Fall 2024 season of “Come Home, It’s Suppertime” until 2025. It was a tough decision but we are confident we did the best thing.”

The Brundidge Historical Society hosts several annual events including the upcoming Peanut Butter Festival the last Saturday in October,  “A Chili County Christmas” featuring “Three on a String” on December 14, and the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival the last full weened in January, and, yes, Donald Davis will be back.

Garrett said all are popular events,  not only within the local area, but in local states and several  outside the Southeast.

“We are looking forward these events and invite everyone to make plans to piddle around with us,” Garrett said.
