When disaster strikes, the Salvation Army is there.

Donna Kidd, director of the Pike County Salvation Army Service Center, said in response Hurricane Helene, the Salvation Army, is at locations  in Georgia and Florida and will be going into North Carolina today.

“The Salvation Army is and was  ready to respond immediately, “Kidd said. “They are feeding hot meals  twice every day.”

Kidd said the Salvation Army always stands ready to respond to any disaster.

Alabama, Mississippi  and Louisiana are included as a division and are able to respond to any extensive event when needed.

“I have had the opportunity to be a member of a  response team and to see how appreciative people are for the kindnesses shown,” Kidd said. “The Salvation Army is always there when disasters happen and meeting the needs here at home year around.

Even though Christmas is a couple of months away, the Pike County Salvation Army  Service Center on South Brundidge Street is accepting applications for its annual  Angel Tree project.

When the application process is completed, Kidd said about 100 children will be eligible for “adoption” at Christmas time.

“Every child should have a Merry Christmas. And, this year, our service center is going to ‘adopt’ the veterans home in Brundidge,” Kidd said. “We are looking forward to this opportunity make Christmas special for veterans in recognition of their service, as well as for the children on our Angel Tree.”
