Danny Barron was sworn in as the Troy Police Department’s New chief on Tuesday morning.

Barron began working with the TPD in 1991 as part-time jailer and worked his way up through the ranks. He was appointed as chief, replacing Randall Barr. Barr retired last Friday after more than 33 years with the department and nine years as chief.

“As I take on this role, my mission is clear: To serve and protect this community with integrity, professionalism and compassion,” Barron said after being sworn in. “Trust is the key to running a police department. And, we’re going to build this through transparency, accountability and a strong community relationship. We’re committed to upholding the principles of justice and fairness, recognizing that our authority is established for the greater good. … I want to thank you again for your trust in me and letting me lead this great department. Let’s build a brighter future for Troy together.”

Barron graduated from Charles Henderson High School in 1991 and moved from part-time to full-time work with the TPD. 

In 1993 he was promoted to dispatcher.   In 1996, he was promoted to patrol officer and graduated from the Southwest Police Academy.  In 2002, he was promoted to sergeant of the patrol division. 

In 2006, he was promoted to lieutenant of the patrol division.   In 2010, he was certified as an Active Shooter Instructor.  In September 2011, he was transferred to lieutenant in criminal investigation.  In December of 2011, he was promoted to captain of the criminal investigation division.  In 2015, he was transferred to captain of the patrol division. He was assigned to the Emergency Response Team and was an active member from 1999 to  2022.
