Time is winding down to register to vote for the 2024 General Election on Nov. 5.
The last day to register to vote or to change voter registration information is Monday, Oct. 21 – two weeks before the Nov. 5 election.
For absentee voting, the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person is Oct. 29 and the last day to hand deliver an absentee ballot for the election is Nov. 4. Absentee ballots that are returned by mail must be received by noon on Nov. 5, the day of the election.
- Voter registration requirements for Alabama are:
- Citizenship in the United States
- Live in Alabama
- 18-years-old or older on or before election day
- Are not barred from voting due to a disqualifying felony conviction
- Have not been declared mentally incompetent by a court
If a voter moves to another county within Alabama, they must re-register in the new county of residence by the registration deadline.
Voter identification is required in order to vote. Voters can present one of the following valid forms of identification:
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License – including Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Digital Driver’s License (not expired or expired less than 60 days)
- Valid Alabama Nondriver ID – including Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Digital Nondriver ID (not expired or expired less than 60 days)
- Valid free Alabama Photo Voter ID card
- Valid State-issued ID (Alabama or any other state)
- Valid Employee ID from Federal Government, State of Alabama, County, Municipality, Board, or other entity of this state , Valid student or employee ID from a public or private college or university in the State of Alabama (including postgraduate technical or professional schools)
- Valid student or employee ID issued by a state institution of higher learning in any other state
- Valid Military ID
- Valid Tribal ID
