Pioneer Days at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama is a highly anticipated annual event by all ages who have an interest in the pioneers who settled Pike County and all Alabama.
Barbara Tatom, museum director, said Pioneer Days includes activities and events for those with different interests, that include a large number of hands-on activities and opportunities.
“Pioneer Days has demonstrations and hands on activities that children especially enjoy,” Tatom said., “One of the most popular hands-on activities is corn-husk doll making. It is especially enjoyed by children, some who have never shucked an ear of corn. Adults seem to enjoy the hands-on activities as much as the kids.
There will be a variety of demonstrations including chuckwagon cooking, quilting, blacksmithing, woodworking and a laundry demonstration.”
“Quill making, candle dipping and basket making are popular with all ages,” Tatom said. “The school marm, the general store keeper and the circuit riding preacher all have stories to share about the days gone-by that are enjoyed by all ages.”
And the French militia and the North and South Civil War re-enactors are eager to welcome visitors to their encampments and to share information about the warfare and their role in the conflicts.
Pioneer Days 2024 is set for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. October 11 and 12.
Admission is $12 and members and children five and under are free.
