On October 2, 2024, the Troy Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 300 block of Curtis Drive. Earlier that morning, a separate incident of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle had also been reported at the same address.
Following the issuance of a Be on the Lookout (BOLO), officers located the stolen vehicle traveling on AL Hwy 87. A traffic stop was initiated, but the driver accelerated and fled south on Hwy 87. The pursuit continued as the driver turned onto County Road 3304, driving at high speeds until losing control and striking a road sign in the 2200 block. The driver then fled on foot into a heavily wooded area while officers detained two passengers.
Additional assistance was provided by Pike County sheriff’s deputies and ALEA state troopers in the search for the driver, but he was not located at that time. The detained passengers were transported to the Troy Police Department for questioning.
Charges:
• Quinton Tyler Ellis was charged with Theft of Property 1st and placed in the Pike County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
• A second adult female passenger was questioned and booked on an existing misdemeanor warrant but will not face any charges related to this incident.
On October 3, officers received information about the driver’s whereabouts, identified as Henry Wyatt Smith, potentially at a residence on Pike County Road 5511. Officers responded and successfully took Smith into custody without incident. He has been charged with:
• Theft of Property 1st ($10,000 bond)
• Felony Attempting to Elude ($25,000 bond)
Smith will be placed in the Pike County Jail.
The Troy Police Department would like to extend its gratitude to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and ALEA for their valuable assistance in the apprehension of these suspects and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
