All of the various high school football teams in Pike County have plenty of football tradition and that tradition extends to college football. That continues with a number of local players currently playing Division I football across the nation.

From Charles Henderson High School, Jonathon Carter is a senior running back at the University of South Alabama, while former Charles Henderson star athlete Jywon Boyd is a freshman receiver at Troy University. Former Charles Henderson star Benton Dunn is a freshman offensive lineman at Kennesaw State University.

Former Pike Lib kicker Scott Taylor Renfroe is in his second year as the starting field goal kicker at Troy. Last season, Renfroe tied the single game field goal record at the school and this season, he’s already made noise. He’s converted 7-of-8 field goal attempts this season with multiple kicks of over 40 yards, including a career-long 49-yarder against ULM. He’s also made 13-of-14 PATs.

Former Pike Lib star KC Bradford is a sophomore defensive back at Troy University and has played extensively on special teams.

Ian Foster was a star athlete at both Pike Liberal Arts School and Pike County High School and the Brundidge native is currently a redshirt freshman cornerback at Marshall University. In five games so far this season, Foster has tallied 18 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup.

Just like his high school career, Foster has been used in a multitude of different ways. He’s also serving as one of the team’s primary kickoff returners, returning four kickoffs for 103 yards, including a 51-yard return in week one.

Former Goshen star Jamauri McClure is a freshman running back at Tulane, playing for former Troy head coach Jon Sumrall. Coming in to this past weekend, McClure had made just one game appearance for Tulane this season, carrying the ball five times for 28 yards against Southeastern Louisiana in week one.

Against UAB on Oct. 5, however, McClure exploded to rush for 84 yards and his first career touchdown on just 10 carries. For the season, he’s tallied 15 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. He also has one catch for 24 yards.

Following the game on Saturday, Sumrall told the media that McClure had likely played himself into not redshirting as a freshman and that he may already be the second best running back on the team.
