A Florida man has been charged with drug trafficking after a Troy Police Department officer made a routine traffic stop.
According to Troy Police Chief Danny Barron, an officer stopped a white, 2024 Toyota Camry during routine traffic enforcement around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Barron said the officer investigated the car and discovered a large quantity of marijuana inside the vehicle. Barron said upon further investigation a firearm, a significant number of hydrocodone pills and a large amount of U.S. currency were found in the vehicle.
Barron said the driver, Diavante Jordan Welch, 28, of Melbourne, Fla., was charged with trafficking marijuana and trafficking hydrocodone. Welch was taken to the Troy City Jail for processing and then transferred to the Pike County Jail. Bond was set at $100,000 on each charge.
